The Mausoleum

Finally, we have made it to the most beautiful part of the tour - the mausoleum.

The mausoleum is made of all-white marble. The platform is 23 feet high, while the main dome is 240 feet high at the highest peak.

The towers on each side are called minarets.  They were built in such a way that if they are to ever fall, they will not fall into the mausoleum.

While the sides of the buildings may just look as if they are decorated entirely by floral patterns, scriptures from the Koran cover the entire masoleum.

Let's take a closer look:

It's time to go inside!

In the center of the dome is the room with the tombs of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal. They are located behind a screen.
This is as close as visitors can get to the tombs.

This is a photo of the tombs located inside the screen.
Even though the Taj Mahal was built to honor Mumtaz Mahal, Shah Jahan has the tomb on the left, which is clearly larger!
